PREMIER MAKHURA ON RADICAL ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION

Gauteng Premier David Makhura at the Official opening ceremony of The Africa Universities Summit, at the University of Johannesburg.

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng premier David Makhura says the next two and a half years to 2019 will be focused on ensuring radical economic transformation, modernisation and reindustrialisation; accelerated social transformation and social cohesion; transforming and modernising the public service; and mainstreaming the rights of women, youth, persons with disabilities and military veterans.
He says the provincial government will work together with citizens, businesses, civil society stakeholders, municipalities and public servants to do the following:
                 - Building an inclusive economy, safe and cohesive communities and good infrastructure that benefit all the residents of Gauteng.
                 - Making politics more constructive, transformative and impactful on the lives of citizens.
                 - Ensuring a transformative politics which utilises public sector budgets to radically transform lives and build sustainable livelihoods.
                 - Building a value-based politics which is about the values of service and loyalty to the citizens.
                 - Empowering the youth through access to better educational and entrepreneurship opportunities so that they can live meaningful lives as    productive citizens.
                  - Empowering women to break the shackles of patriarchy by empowering them to play their full role in the economy and society as equal citizens.
                 - Building an economy that creates more jobs and includes Blacks, women, persons with disabilities and the youth.
                 - Building a compassionate society that protects the most vulnerable including mental health patients and taking steps to ensure that never      gain should so many people die out of total neglect, arrogant treatment and lack of care and compassion by us in government.
                 - Promoting social cohesion among all people regardless of their nationality, religion, origin, gender, sexual orientation, class or race.
                 - Building an accountable, responsive and clean government which manages public finances in a transparent and accountable manner.

Makhura says the priority is to make a difference in the lives people, to work with citizens to drive radical social and economic transformation and build a society where all people can live meaningful lives, in peace and harmony.
